Australia Day

Already feeling burnt out from the start of the working year? Fear not, friends — the Australia Day long weekend is upon us. And whether you’re the type who likes to jump on a plane to maximise the public holiday or simply kick back and relax at home, Boody has something to offer you.

We round up seven types of long weekend people and what Boody staples they need in their wardrobe for Australia Day.

1. The jet-setter

The jet-setter

Just 20 days of holiday per year? That’s definitely not enough to satisfy your wanderlust. This is why you make the effort to plan ahead and maximise the public holidays throughout the year, either through smaller, domestic trips or by extending getaways that are further afield. The Australia Day long weekend is perfect for this, especially coming so soon after the festive break when we’re all suffering from post-holiday blues.

So, what to pack for your Australia Day getaway? Well, once you’ve filled your suitcase with all the usual suspects (sunscreen, swimmers and a good book), it’s time to turn your attention to what you’ll be wearing — both poolside and on the plane.

Bamboo clothing is the perfect choice for travelling, both for its lightweight durability and breathable properties. If you’re after women’s bamboo clothing to wear in transit, don’t go past our Women’s Long Sleeve Top and our Full Length Leggings. Perfect for layering, these ultra comfy staples will keep you cosy when the AC is blasting on your flight.

Guys, layer up in our Men’s Long Sleeve Crew Neck T-Shirt for the flight. If you’re someone that really feels the cold when flying, add our Soft Jersey Beanie and Fringed Hem Scarf to your travel gear. Heading somewhere hot? Our Men’s Singlet will keep you cool teamed with a pair of shorts or boardies. Bon voyage!

2. The relaxed type

The relaxed type

You’re someone who prefers to stay closer to home during a long weekend. Weekends are short enough, so getting that extra day is perfect for unwinding in comfort on the lounge with the windows open and the fan spinning as the summer hits its peak.

The Women’s Tank Top is ideal for lazy days at home, whether you’re having a barbie in the yard or a Netflix binge indoors. The scoop neck tank is designed for everyday wear with our signature soft and stretchy bamboo fabric. Tuck it into your favourite pair of pants and you’re good to go.

For the guys, our Men’s V-Neck T-Shirt is ideal for kicking back and relaxing this Australia Day. Or, if it’s extra hot and whoever you live with doesn’t mind, a pair of our Mid-Length Trunks is all you need to kick back in this mid-summer long weekend.

3. The fitness junkie

The fitness junkie

You’re not happy unless you’re speeding up your pulse and working up a sweat. Whether you’re jogging along the beach or hitting the gym, you’ll be spending your long weekend much how you spend every weekend, morning and evening — in your activewear.

Our Racerback Sports Bra is an essential for every fitness junkie, designed to deliver medium, everyday support. The style’s racerback shape, wide straps and underbust ribbing provides ultimate comfort while extra coverage is gained from the round neckline. Team the bra with our Active Short Tight 5” or Women’s Active Short Tight 2” to complete your active look.

Want to take your workout to the next level? Look no further than our Women’s Active Sports Socks. Featuring our stretchy bamboo fabric that’s naturally antibacterial and moisture-wicking, you can rest assured your feet will remain in comfort and odour-free when you train. Or, if you’d rather go incognito, our Women’s Invisible Active Sports Socks are your go-to. Featuring a no-show design and rib and mesh detailing, slip them on with your favourite sneakers and say goodbye to sweaty feet.

4. The routine worshiper

The routine worshiper

Long weekend? What long weekend? You’d rather stick to your regular weekend routine, regardless of the extra day we’re getting off. You’ll head out for coffee, hit the shops and wind down with friends over a glass of wine. You’ll squeeze in a workout, and hopefully, a trip to the beach if weather permits.

No matter your weekend routine, bamboo clothing should be your go-to for its moisture wicking and thermo-regulating properties. Our Women’s Crew Neck T-Shirt is a timeless, everyday essential with its super-soft and loose-but-fitting design. With its gently-curving neckline, our Women’s Cami Top is another essential staple that’s perfect for casual weekend wear.

For the guy who’s happy to keep it simple this Australia Day weekend, our Men’s Crew Neck T-Shirt is perfect for teaming with your favourite pair of shorts or chinos. The moisture wicking and antibacterial properties of bamboo fibre will help keep you feeling fresh and dry when the temperatures soar.

5. The new parent

The new parent

You’ve not long welcomed your bundle of joy into the world. The idea of jetting off or even driving somewhere along the coast is all but a distant memory this Australia Day as you navigate the noisy world of newborn parenting. So much so, that dressing for yourself is the last thing on your mind.

Well, don’t worry – we have your little one’s wardrobe needs covered. Our Baby Sleeveless Bodysuit is perfect for the hot weather and features discreet colour-matched press studs for easy nappy access. Another summer staple is our Baby Pull on Shorts, which are perfect for showing off bub’s adorable little legs. Designed with our signature stretchy fabric and an elastic waistband, they’ll take you just a moment to pull on.

For the new parent, our Muslin Wrap for Babies - 2 Pack is beyond essential. Available in a handy pack of two, these feather-light wraps are crafted in 100% bamboo viscose for ultimate breathability. Ideal for swaddling, you’ll send your little bambino off to the Land of Nod with ease (so you might even sneak in some mummy and daddy time this long weekend!).

6. The yogi

The yogi

Your idea of bliss this Australia Day weekend is some Zen time. Whether you’re practising yoga or meditating, you’ll be making the most of fitting in some time to find your inner peace away from the daily grind of your nine to five. Namaste.

Our Women’s Racerback Active Tank is crafted from our unique blend of organically-grown bamboo which is perfect for yoga and meditation. With its generous arm opening to allow movement and a relaxed fit featuring the racerback shape, this essential staple balances form and function.

Finish off your yogi look with our ¾ Length Active Tights, which are made from our ultra-soft, 4-way stretch fabric. Featuring an elasticised waistband for comfort and a secret hip pocket for ease, these fitted leggings are perfect for taking on the Cobra Pose or Downward Facing Dog with ease.

7. The workaholic

The workaholic

Ok, so it’s not all fun and games for everyone. You have to work this public holiday, or perhaps you’ve chosen to. In which case, there’s no reason for you to be uncomfortable. Which is where our comfy and breathable bamboo socks come in.

Whether you work on a shop floor or in an office, Our Women’s Everyday Socks will slip effortlessly into your shoes or boots and keep nasty odours away. These socks hold their shape, don’t sag or roll down and are naturally antibacterial and breathable. Almost enough to make working on a public holiday ok!

Guys, if you’re heading to the office this Australia Day, our Men’s Work / Boot Socks or Men’s Business Socks have what you need. The premium yarn of the former features thermo-regulating properties that’ll provide you with heaps of padding without the usual overheating, while the latter includes a soft ribbing ankle opening for comfort that won’t leave any sock mark.

So, there you have it. Whatever you’re up to this Australia Day long weekend, we hope you have fun doing it. And that you’re wearing Boody, of course!

How To Check Your Breasts

What’s the first thing you think to look for when you hear the phrase ‘check your breasts’? It’s often the idea that you’re looking for a lump. Right? Did you know that there are actually 12 symptoms of breast cancer that can help you be more confident to report a persistent breast change? We bet you also didn't know that the changes to look out for are very similar for both women and men. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to raise awareness about the impact of breast cancer. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, with 9 people losing their lives to the disease every day. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation Australia, 1 in 7 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and about 1 in 700 men are diagnosed with the disease too. But thanks to research the relative survival rate for breast cancer in Australia has improved from 76% to 91%. As a brand that creates intimates - it seemed fit for us to use our platform to talk to breast cancer and use the month of October to simply be breast aware - because if you grow them, you should know them.  So, what should my breasts feel like? Firstly, it’s important to acknowledge that only you can really know your breasts. The way breasts look and feel will vary for every person. That is why it is so important to be breast aware as this will ensure you can acknowledge a change - if there is one. Remember, October is a reminder to check your breasts - but checking should be made part of your monthly routine. “Forty percent of diagnosed breast cancers are detected by women who feel a lump, so establishing a regular breast self-exam is very important.” Source: nationalbreastcancer.org What are the 12 symptoms? The following 12 signs are things to be aware of. Yes, sometimes it is just your body but a change noticed that is persistent - is best checked by your doctor. It is important to note, different people have different symptoms of breast cancer. Some people do not have any signs or symptoms at all. New lump in the breast or underarm (armpit) Thickening or swelling of part of the breast Irritation or dimpling of breast skin Redness or flaky skin in the nipple area or the breast Pulling in of the nipple or pain in the nipple area Nipple discharge other than breast milk Any change in the size or the shape of the breast Changes in the shape of the nipple Pain in any area of the breast Growing veins Nipple retraction Thickening of the nipple or breast skin How should A breast self-exam be performed? In the Shower With the pads/flats of your 3 middle fingers, check the entire breast and armpit area pressing down with light, medium, and firm pressure. Check both breasts each month feeling for any lump, thickening, hardened knot, or any other breast changes. In Front of a Mirror  Visually inspect your breasts with your arms at your sides. Next, raise your arms high overhead. Look for any changes in the contour, any swelling, or dimpling of the skin, or changes in the nipples. Next, rest your palms on your hips and press firmly to flex your chest muscles. Left and right breasts will not exactly match—few women’s breasts do, so look for any dimpling, puckering, or changes, particularly on one side. Lying Down When lying down, the breast tissue spreads out evenly along the chest wall. Place a pillow under your right shoulder and your right arm behind your head. Using your left hand, move the pads of your fingers around your right breast gently covering the entire breast area and armpit. Use light, medium, and firm pressure. Squeeze the nipple; check for discharge and lumps. Repeat these steps for your left breast. What does a lump feel like? A new lump is one of the most common signs of breast cancer. Lumps that are breast cancers can vary. For example, they may be painless or painful. Lumps can also be a sign of a benign (non-cancerous) breast condition. However, if you have found a new lump or breast change, it is important to see your doctor so that it can be checked by a health professional. When should I see a doctor? A breast change doesn't always mean it is ‘cancer’. However, being breast aware is invaluable and if you do see a sign, have a symptom, don't feel right or simply just want to be sure - we encourage it! Early detection gives the best possible chance of survival if you are diagnosed with breast cancer. It is important to remember that breast awareness does not replace having regular mammograms and other screening tests as recommended by your doctor. Some people diagnosed with breast cancer have signs or symptoms. However, some women have no signs/symptoms and the breast cancer is found during a screening mammogram. How often should I get a mammogram? In general, women should have a yearly clinical breast examination by a doctor beginning at age 20 and start having annual mammograms beginning at age 40. BreastScreen Australia offers free mammograms to women aged between 40 and 74 years. If you experience any breast symptoms or unusual changes, see your doctor without delay. If you have a strong family history or you are concerned that you may have an increased risk of breast cancer, always talk to your doctor. Your doctor will help you assess and manage your breast cancer risk and will advise of any additional precautions or screening you may require. Mammograms are not recommended for male breast cancer screening in Australia. However, other tools to check include a clinical breast examination, an ultrasound and a biopsy.  So, do men get breast cancer? So many people assume breast cancer affects women only. Breast cancer affects both men and women, because men and women both have breast tissue. About 1 in 700 men are diagnosed with breast cancer* in Australia. If you are a man or are reading this and have men in your life - it is important to make them always aware and let them know that if there are any new and unusual changes to their breasts - they should be aware and seek attention. Our platform is open to #EveryBoody For the month of October, we will use our platform to talk to breast cancer awareness and share insights through personal stories. Our platform is open to #EveryBoody. If you have a story you would like to share, want to share someone else's story or have someone you want to give a shout out to - please reach out to us. We would be honoured to share your story and your message. As one of the most common cancers in the world and a cancer that has touched so many in one way or another - simply starting the conversation and education pieces like this will help lead to an increased awareness.  Contact marketing@boody.com.au to share a story.  Sources: https://nbcf.org.au/about-breast-cancer/detection-and-awareness/breast-cancer-symptoms/, https://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/breast-self-exam, https://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/testing/types/self_exam, https://nbcf.org.au/about-breast-cancer/breast-cancer-stats/

Ensure you have a reusable coffee cup handy when ordering coffee. Better yet, create a plastic-free car kit so that you are organised whenever you’re on the go. 4. Reconsider products you have always used  Can you replace some of the products you buy with others that come package-free? Think personal care, cleaning products and soap. You can also opt for making your own with so many alternatives including using bar soap instead of a dispenser and choosing to make your own zero-waste cleaning products.  What Zero Waste products should I buy first?
